On Tuesday evening, we were entertained by Marine Artist Nick John Rees.
Nick demonstrated his method of using acrylic paint applied thickly onto a primed wooden board. The subject was "Watch Tower Bay" near Barry. He created a sunset sky, applying and blending the colours with a palette knife.
The horizon was masked with a tape to get a straight line. Continuing to blend the sea and beach colours, Nick sculpted the headland with a dark grey mix, and then created striations on the rocks of a golden hue to reflect the warmth of the lower sky.
The resulting painting, although not complete, was a fine example of using an impasto and textured finish.
Thank you Nick.
