Portrait Competition and Art Society Filming – Summer 2013
“I work for a company called Storyvault Films and I am currently working on a
new arts series for a major broadcaster that will centre around portrait
painting. Filming for the series will take place next summer in eight cities
around the UK and the Republic of Ireland, ready for broadcast next Autumn.
There are two key elements to the series,a competition for portrait
painting and a large community interactive arts event within each of the
nominated cities for the region. The competition element will feature a form
of submissions process, audition round and then various rounds around the
country with a grand final. It should be a fantastic opportunity for artists
and I do hope you might consider it.
Currently I am trying to find out who/where all the various arts
associations/groups and workshops are in the UK and Ireland, to learn about
and connect with as many different individual portrait artists as possible,
from the well-established to emerging talent to hobbyists.
If you think you might be interested it would be great if you could send me
a photo of yourself, short biography including any hobbies/interests/family
life/anything you think might be interesting as well as a link to your work
to harriet.mathams@storyvault.tv. This is purely for my own records as I am
trying to get to know a little about each artist and is open to everyone.”

S.W.A.S. Members are increasingly taking advantage of everyday objects around the home to create original and interesting paintings of mixed media. It may be of interest to some to see the works of a 21st century artist enjoying international interest. Paul O’Brien makes much use of written text in addition to acrylics to create his atmospheric paintings.
